Cook + Schmid Receives Hermes Creative Awards Honorable Mention for
Housing Matters Campaign
Out-of-home advertising recognized for creativity based on judging consensus
SAN DIEGO—Cook + Schmid, a full-service marketing and public relations firm, received honorable mention from the 2011 Hermes Creative Awards selection committee for the out-of-home advertising component of the Housing Matters campaign.
The out-of-home campaign, which included billboards, bus sides and bus shelters, is part of Cook + Schmid’s public awareness and outreach campaign in partnership with the County of San Diego’s Mental Health Services Administration to reduce stigma and housing discrimination faced by residents suffering from mental disabilities and homelessness.
“With one of four homeless individuals in San Diego County suffering from a mental illness, we needed to design a campaign that would resonate with residents by presenting the facts in an aesthetically pleasing manner,” said Jon Schmid, C+S managing partner. “We’re honored that the Hermes selection committee recognizes the importance of the campaign and found our creativity noteworthy after viewing 4,400 entries.”
The Housing Matters campaign uses a variety of tactics to educate San Diegans about supportive housing, a community-based service model that provides housing with integrated support services such as mental health services, case management and social services. Other tactics include print ads, radio and television public service announcements, print collateral materials and a website.
