Councilmember Gloria Unveils New Bus Shelters in City Heights

Twenty New Community Amenities Obtained by City Heights Business Association

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – San Diego City Councilmember Todd Gloria will join the City Heights Business Association (CHBA) to cut the ribbon on new bus shelters in City Heights on Friday, September 25 at 10:15 a.m. in front of the City Heights – Weingart Branch Library located at 3795 Fairmount Avenue. CHBA purchased and installed 20 new bus shelters throughout the community through the use of City Heights Redevelopment Project Area funds.

“City Heights is a very transit-friendly area, and these new bus shelters are practical and attractive additions to our neighborhood,” said Councilmember Gloria. “I appreciate the City Heights Business Association for making this project happen.”

The need for more bus shelters in the City Heights community was identified by the CHBA four years ago. Originally, four shelters were funded through the successful application for Community Development Block Grants. The CHBA then identified an additional 20 bus stop locations with City Heights that lacked much needed shade and seating. The CHBA presented their bus shelter proposal to the City Heights Project Area Committee (PAC) and the PAC, which serves as an advisory committee to the San Diego Redevelopment Agency, recommended the CHBA’s funding request.  Agency staff and the CHBA worked closely to prepare and administer an agreement for the bus shelters and benches using redevelopment funds.

“The residents of City Heights are pleased that after a long and difficult process, we finally have the bus shelters we worked so hard to get,” said Enrique Gandarilla, Executive Director of City Heights Business Association.
