The West Mission Bay Drive Bridge replacement was the largest capital improvement project managed by the City of San Diego. The project replaced the existing four-lane West Mission Bay Drive Bridge with two new parallel three-lane structures designed to enhance traffic flow. The new bridge also accommodated class 1 bike paths on both bridges and achieved roadway widening and improvements along Sports Arena Boulevard, West Mission Bay Drive and the westbound I-8 off-ramp. As a subcontractor to Flatiron, Cook + Schmid provided public outreach throughout the course of the project including public noticing, public inquiry response, media relations, and team coordination, aiming to ensure effective communication with businesses, residents, and organizations that were impacted by the construction.
